Lightning Is A Problem
Here’s a fun fact in case you did not know: Florida is the lightning capital of the United States. Well, now, due to the planet warming, the lightning has gotten a lot worse everywhere as of this year. My area in particular has been interesting. Everyone around me has pretty much been acknowledging the crazy amount of lightning we are getting lately.
Even with this, it was a great surprise when I got a text from Mr. FOGA showing a fire rescue truck in our driveway. Why was it there? Because a house down the road got struck by lightning and caught on fire. Thankfully, they were able to put it out before too much damage was done, but it was still hella surreal. Then, after that, I learned that not one, not two, but three of the model homes we have in the area have been struck by lightning. That includes the model that I am moving to next. Apparently, a lot of the electronics and electrical wiring needs to be fixed/replaced now. This will also delay our move into said model and into this community.
So, with all of this mounting evidence of the increasing lightning, we decided to get a whole house surge protector installed. It won’t stop the lightning from striking, obviously, but it will protect the electronics in the home and the electrical wiring reducing the chance of an electrical fire or needing to replace a lot of electronics/appliances, which is good. There goes about $580 that we weren’t originally budgeted for, but will save us lots of worry in the future. We’ll be putting one on the investment property as well. Not sure if that will be the same amount or a little less since it’s a townhome. The estimate is scheduled for later this week so we shall see.

Well dang you’re right, I had no idea! Between this and the storms…!!
Yep. We got lots of lightning around here. Sure, whole house surge protector for the win. 😊
