March 2021 Net Worth

Long, long ago in the B.C. times (Before Covid- Oct 2019), I posted my last (not intentional) net worth update here at FOGA. It was met wide with wide critical acclaim (no it wasn’t) and people have been begging me (they most certainly have not) to do another. Now, due to incredibly popular demand (okay, now I’m just embarrassing myself), I am here to bring a long-overdue (the first accurate thing I have typed) update to the masses (🤦🏾‍♀️).

My poor attempt at humor aside, it really has been a while since I updated my net worth. A crazy amount of things have happened since then, so net worth was honestly the furthest thing from my mind. But it’s time to get back on the horse.

While I may not have been posting my net worth on FOGA, I have been keeping a record of it. Because I’m a geek like that. 😛 Granted I missed many months in there while life was happening so this will be fairly concise.

Then: December 2019 Net Worth: $193,000

This was the start of everything going bat shit insane in life and the beginning of not having any time to write or think anymore. We had just put the first of funds into index funds. It was a proud moment. The beginning of the slow climb towards financial independence.

Then: December 2020 Net Worth: $287,000

What a difference a year makes. The value of the house went up. Mortgage was refinanced and going down. All investments were doing well. Maxed out the IRA for 2020. Financially everything is going great. Life is also calming down and becoming manageable again.

Now: March 2021 Net Worth: $340,000

Holy Fuck. So, that is a $53,000 jump. I think I redid the math four times just to make sure that I didn’t screw this up, but it all checks out. My 401K jumped up by $17,000 during this time. Also increased the amount in savings since we are planning to upgrade the gaming computer this year (the worst possible time since graphics cards are worth more than gold right now).

The value of the home went up even more since this real estate market is insane, but I only increased the value by $6,000 in my estimate despite the fact that it could sell for a lot more. I am overly conservative in that regard. We also managed to bring down the principal owed on the mortgage by $11,000. Soon the mortgage will be under $200,000. 🥳

The goal for this year is $450,000 which I originally made as a stretch goal. I am thinking it might be completely doable now. 😊

How are you doing on your net worth? Hitting your goals so far?
