Enraged Is STILL An Understatement
Quick Medical Update: I’m back. Everything medical is done. Just post-op tomorrow and then back to work. Now onto what we’re actually going to talk about today.
You know, one of the surgeries that I got was getting my tubes removed. I am now, by my own choice, infertile. This is awesome. I feel incredibly grateful and thankful that I was able to get this done even more so now that the Supreme Court plans to overthrow Roe v. Wade.
I have written about this before when Texas passed its abortion law. This is abhorrent. Bodily autonomy is a basic human right. Abortion is a basic human right. Not being able to have access to it will lead to many deaths primarily of women/people with uteruses. Maybe that is the point. If they can’t control us then we die and are no longer a problem. It’s a morbid outlook, but the best I can come up with right now. I am enraged. The SCOTUS seems to want to move us backward by 50+ years.
What some people fail to understand is it doesn’t end with Roe. This whole thing is based on the SCOTUS believing that the constitution doesn’t protect the “right to privacy”. Do you know what else counts in the “right the privacy”?
- Lawrence v. Texas– This made it unconstitutional to punish people for committing the act of sodomy. It made homosexuality legal.
- Griswold v. Connecticut: This protects the ability of married couples to buy contraceptives/birth control without government restriction.
- Loving v. Virginia: Made interracial marriage legal.
- Obergefell v. Hodges: This legalized same-sex marriage.
- Skinner v Oklahoma: This made it unconstitutional to forcibly sterilize people.
That list isn’t everything. It’s just five of the many laws that are built around the right to privacy. Because this will NOT end with Roe v. Wade.
Right now, today, abortion is still legal. I hope beyond all hope that we are able to keep it that way. If we can’t…we are in so much fucking trouble.
PS: I wrote this before, but it is relevant again. If you read this post and went, “FOGA is getting political. She needs to stop.” I would advise you to leave and not come back. Because this isn’t “political”. People’s lives are at stake here. If you cannot see that, then this is not the place for you.
